How it works
- 1Open the PDF to read its current metadata.
- 2Edit the title, author, subject and keywords.
- 3Clear any field you would rather leave empty.
- 4Export the document with the new values.
What this does to your file
Document metadata travels with a file and is visible to anyone who opens its properties. Editing it here rewrites those fields; the page content is untouched.
Common questions
Is my file uploaded to a server?
- No. The page loads a PDF engine into your browser and the document is read from disk by that engine. There is no upload endpoint, and once the page has loaded you can disconnect from the network and the tool still works.
Why does my file show someone else's name as author?
- Most editors write the account name of whoever created or last saved the document. Clearing the author field removes it.
Does this remove everything identifying?
- It handles the standard document information fields. Content inside the pages themselves is not touched — use Redact for that.
What are creation and modification dates used for?
- They are timestamps written by the producing application. They are stored in the file and are visible to any reader.
